How It Works

Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs at complete rest — just to keep your organs functioning, breathe and maintain body temperature.

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) takes your BMR and multiplies it by an activity factor that accounts for exercise and daily movement. This is your actual daily calorie need.

To lose weight, eat about 500 kcal below your TDEE (roughly 0.5 kg per week). To gain weight, eat about 500 kcal above your TDEE. These are general guidelines — individual results may vary.
